I love Working on machines (my babies, as I fondly call them). I look forward to each day spent at sea, as it comes with its own challenges, which no matter how long it may take, are eventually overcome. I dislike the monotony and lack of extra-curricular activities. The lack of variety and interest and also going through the same routine day in, day out can be mentally stressful.
Being accepted in a male dominated environment was one of the earliest problem I experienced. My capabilities were initially questioned. I was able to deal with that by my inquisitive nature and eagerness to learn and also by staying strong and showing active participation in everything, thereby proving my worth and earning respect.
Susan is currently an Engine Cadet.
