Against The Tide

The first and foremost challenge that I faced onboard my first ship was acceptance, having a woman onboard seemed to be time taking and there were times when I was questioned about my capabilities onboard but the only solution to it I found is to work as hard, if not twice as hard.

Being a young female seafarer, the role to supervise much older and more experienced men can also be challenging and intimidating but I have to say that so far I have had an overall positive experience working onboard and fortunately for me,I have been treated with nothing but equality and respect onboard by the male colleagues.

To women in a male dominated industry out there : you’re doing amazing, celebrate diversity and embrace the skills you bring to your workplace.
