Against The Tide

Lisa Hunter, England.

My day to day responsibilities are understudying the OOW in order to learn the skills and knowledge to eventually become a qualified OOW. One of the best things about my job is getting to experience different countries and cultures, traveling whilst learning how to be the best officer I can be once I qualify.

Different people have different views on women at sea which can sometimes be a little disheartening, however I’ve always been true to myself and gotten through situations with the support of other women at sea. People may doubt your abilities as a woman and no matter how much grief you get, you have to remember you’re just as capable as anyone else to be in this job.

One of the changes I would love to see at sea is sanitary bins on ship for women!

Lisa is currently a Deck Cadet
